EROSKI renews its commitments and consolidates its cooperative model in health, environment, people and sustainability

  • The cooperative updates its strategic roadmap after the cycle started in 2018, reinforcing a model that integrates health, sustainability and competitiveness.
  • The new framework promotes healthy eating, support for the local agri-food fabric, the development of people and the reduction of environmental impact.
  • Cooperative governance, with the participation of consumers and workers, guides the strategy towards creating shared value.

EROSKI has presented the renewal of its “5 Commitments to You”, a natural evolution of the 10 Commitments for Health and Sustainability launched in 2018. With this new 2026–2030 framework, the cooperative updates its strategic roadmap and reaffirms its purpose of integrating health, sustainability and shared value into its business model, true to its essence as a cooperative based distribution company.

The new commitments are articulated around five axes that form a structural part of its strategy: promoting healthy food; generating local wealth and solidarity in the environment; promoting the satisfaction and development of working people; listening and informing consumers; and improving environmental sustainability.

The renewal follows the balance of the previous cycle, in which EROSKI has advanced in a structured way in the improvement of the nutritional profile of its own brand, the implementation of consumer information systems such as Nutri-Score, the promotion of the local product, the ecodesign of packaging, the reduction of food waste and the improvement of the energy efficiency and logistics of its commercial network.

“At EROSKI we understand our Commitments as an inherent responsibility in our status as a consumer cooperative. We have made progress in improving the nutritional profile of our own brand, in the food education of thousands of schoolchildren, in promoting the local agri-food fabric and in reducing the environmental impact of our activity. These advances reflect a model that integrates health, sustainability and competitiveness from the ordinary management of the business. The 2030 horizon reinforces this vocation to continue contributing to a healthier, more informed and more sustainable society.”, Said Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa, director of Health and Sustainability of EROSKI and general director of Fundación EROSKI.

Results that consolidate the commitment

A responsible diet, in addition to being healthy and balanced, must be accessible and sustainable. Currently, 78% of EROSKI’s food and beverage sales correspond to categories aligned with the nutritional pyramid, a percentage that continues to gain weight year by year. This result reflects the sustained work in improving the composition of products, reformulating references and betting on clear and transparent information that facilitates healthier purchasing decisions.

In the last school year, more than 213,000 schoolchildren participated in educational programs promoted by the EROSKI Foundation for the prevention of childhood obesity. In addition, hundreds of thousands of consumers take advantage every year of the informative content, recommendations and promotional advantages linked to healthy lifestyle habits through EROSKI Club.

In the environmental section, EROSKI has made structural progress in reducing the impact of its activity and its products. The improvement of energy efficiency in stores and logistics platforms, the optimization of processes and the progressive decarbonization of its activity are part of a roadmap aligned with the objective of climate neutrality in 2050, supported in 2025 by the obtaining of its third Lean & Green Star after evidencing a reduction of 35% in logistics emissions since 2015.

Added to this is the boost to the ecodesign of packaging and the improvement of the recyclability of the own brand, with more than 600 redesigned references since 2020, the elimination of palm fat in its own brand and the extension of certifications that guarantee sustainable origin and animal welfare. In the area of the circular economy, the cooperative continues to strengthen the prevention and donation of food surpluses; in the first half of 2025 alone it avoided the waste of more than 10,700 tons of food, equivalent to 43 million meals.

The social and economic development of the environment is also an essential part of their commitments. EROSKI promotes a wide range of local products, especially from small and medium-sized companies, and accompanies producer families to improve the efficiency and sustainability of their processes. In 2025, the Supplier Support Program reached 394 companies, with more than 4,500 hours of training in sustainability, strengthening the competitiveness of the agri-food fabric.

From its responsibility as a social agent, the solidarity dimension continues to be structural in the cooperative model. During 2025, the Solidarity Plan channeled more than 25 million euros towards social purposes, benefiting more than 280,000 people through 332 entities, returning to society part of the business results through the EROSKI Foundation.

Likewise, EROSKI maintains a continuous dialogue with consumers to know their needs and offer the best service in store and in their contact channels. In the last year it attended about 475,000 queries, with a resolution index of more than 90%, consolidating its position as a reference in information and customer service in the sector.

With the renewal of its “5 Commitments With You”, EROSKI reaffirms its vocation to integrate competitiveness, health, environment and sustainability from the singularity of a cooperative model that places people at the center.
