NOWASTE, technologies for the reduction and valorisation of waste in perishable product

EROSKI joins a collaboration with 13 other companies and organizations in the food chain and the Basque technology industry to promote the NOWaste project. This project aims to research and apply new technologies aimed at reducing and valorising the waste generated in the supply chain of fresh and perishable products. The cooperative has obtained financial support from the Basque Government through the HAZITEK 2022 program to participate in this initiative.

The agri-food sector, responsible for 8% of global emissions of greenhouse gases due to waste, faces a significant challenge in reducing its environmental impact. Within the framework of NOWaste, EROSKI will focus on two different lines to develop more sustainable food production processes in collaboration with the Tecnalia Research Center.

NOWaste, framed in the Smart Specialisation Strategy RIS3 Euskadi and the Science, Technology and Innovation Plan Euskadi 2030 of Smart Industry, will position the territory as a key technological provider for the economic and environmental sustainability of the agri-food sector, strengthening its competitiveness and export capacity.
