EROSKI and the spanish federation of food banks (fesbal) launch a new edition of the “spring food drive”

Supporting Those in Need Once Again

  • The food collection campaign will take place this weekend across EROSKI’s network of hypermarkets, supermarkets and franchise stores.
  • Customers will be able to make financial donations at the checkout, both in-store and through EROSKI’s online supermarket.
  • In 2025, EROSKI and its customers helped provide more than 2,300 tonnes of food and hygiene products through a range of charitable initiatives carried out in partnership with Food Banks and other social organisations.

EROSKI and the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) are launching a new edition of the “Spring Food Drive” this weekend to raise donations, which will be used in full to purchase food for people and families experiencing hardship. The initiative will take place this Friday and Saturday across EROSKI’s network of hypermarkets, supermarkets and franchise stores.

The campaign will primarily be conducted through financial donations at the checkout, both in-store and via EROSKI’s online supermarket. In addition, selected stores in the Basque Country, Navarre and the Balearic Islands will also collect physical donations of food and other products from customers. The funds raised will be made available to local Food Banks, enabling them to purchase the products they consider most necessary at any given time and helping to meet the basic food needs of thousands of families throughout the year.

The initiative will also be supported by Food Bank volunteers, who will be present in many stores to inform customers about the campaign and encourage participation.

“At EROSKI, we see solidarity as an ongoing commitment to our communities and to those facing the greatest difficulties. Thanks to the generosity of our customers and our close partnership with the Food Banks, this campaign once again demonstrates society’s remarkable capacity to come together in support of those in need, helping to ensure that thousands of families have access to adequate food.” Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa, EROSKI’s Director of Health and Sustainability

For his part, Pedro Llorca Llinares, President of the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL), expressed his gratitude for “EROSKI’s continued commitment to this charitable initiative and for the involvement of its customers, whose contributions enable Food Banks to respond to the needs of many people facing difficult circumstances”.

Last year, EROSKI and its customers donated more than 2,300 tonnes of food and hygiene products through various charity campaigns organised in partnership with Food Banks and other social organisations. These donations were equivalent to more than nine million meals, helping to support more than 2,500 vulnerable families.

Thirty Years of Partnership with the Food Banks

EROSKI’s collaboration with the Food Banks dates back to 1996, following a proposal from the Bizkaia Food Bank and consumer requests for charitable initiatives for disadvantaged groups and people at risk of social exclusion. It was through this collaboration that the first food collection campaigns were launched in EROSKI stores.

The cooperative subsequently introduced its programme for donating food products approaching their best-before date but still perfectly safe for consumption. Through this initiative, EROSKI donates thousands of tonnes of food each year to social organisations.

EROSKI has been awarded the Golden Ear of Wheat Award (Premio Espiga de Oro), the highest distinction granted by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks to organisations demonstrating outstanding commitment to redistributing surplus food for social purposes.

More Than €25 Million Invested in Social Causes in 2025

Last year, EROSKI invested more than €25 million in social causes, benefiting over 280,000 people through partnerships with 332 social and public-sector organisations across Spain.

In addition to its donations to the Food Banks, EROSKI runs a range of other social initiatives, including its Zero Waste Programme, through which more than 65 million meals have been saved from being wasted and redistributed to social organisations, its permanent ‘Céntimos Solidarios’ (Small Change for Good) Programme, and a variety of targeted cooperation and social assistance campaigns.
