SISTERS, systemic innovations for a sustainable reduction of European food waste

EROSKI participates in the SISTERS project, funded by the EU under Horizon 2020. SISTERS it aims to reduce food loss and waste at major stages of the food value chain in Europe through innovations targeted at each link in the value chain: new tools for primary producers to promote direct and short chain sales (farmers); new technological innovations in packaging for processors and retailers; and awareness campaigns for retailers and consumers about food loss and waste.

With the support of the European Commission, SISTERS will be a key EU project that will address the issue comprehensively, reducing food loss and waste by 27.4% and reducing food waste
cO2 emissions around 20% in the cases studied. Within the project, EROSKI leads a work package on the impact of the innovations of SISTERS in the marketing phase, by demonstrating the advantages of innovative packaging for the acceptance of wholesalers and retailers, creating good practice guidelines and a seal of excellence for wholesalers and retailers.
The project started in November 2021, will last 4 years and brings together 18 partners from 8 different European countries: AITIIP Technological Center (ES)-project coordinator, Agence BM-services (FR), Riberebro Integral S.A. (ES), PROEXPORT (ES), Munster Technological University (IE), Rebus Labs AG (CH), CARBIOLICE (FR), BIO-MI d.o.o (HR), ITC Packaging s.l.
