ENVIROSCORE, environmental impact communication system

Eroski has led the ENVIROSCORE project that took place throughout 2022. In the same have participated EUSKABER (poultry cooperative), ARROYABE (canning company), S.A.T. KARRANTZA and TGT GROUP (milk production and packaging); also counting for its execution with the AZTI Technological Center.
This project aims to validate the use of the environmental impact communication system, ENVIROSCORE ABCDE, as a tool to generate a change in the production and consumption of food towards more environmentally friendly models.
The following actions will be carried out in the project:
- Life cycle analysis (LCA) in three types of differentiated food products (dairy, eggs and fish preserves)
- Translation of LCA results to ENVIROSCORE score.
- Generation of the ENVIROSCORE tag with the corresponding letter. Application in the linear or packaging of the products following the guidelines of the regulations of use of the logo.
- Evaluation of the understanding and acceptance by consumers
- Comparison of the score of the selected products with other products of the same category
- Generation of scenarios of technical improvement along the value chain that allow the improvement of the ENVIROSCORE of the selected products, which will imply a competitive differentiation of the selected products.
- Development of a system of promotion and communication of ENVIROSCORE as a way of promoting responsible consumption in Basque consumers.
