Elorrio, November 6, 2025.- EROSKI is once again collaborating with the Great Food Drive, the solidarity initiative promoted by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks (FESBAL) and its 54 associated Food Banks, which will take place from November 7 to 9 in the hypermarkets, supermarkets, and franchise stores of the EROSKI Group’s commercial network. The campaign, which combines financial donations and physical food collection, aims to gather essential food items for families in vulnerable situations.

During the campaign days, customers will be able to contribute by donating any amount at checkout, with the donation reflected on their purchase receipt and potentially tax-deductible in their income tax return.

Donations made at checkout are converted into a direct balance for the Food Banks, which will fully exchange it for basic food basket products according to the needs of the people they support throughout the year.

In addition, in selected stores there will be physical food collection on November 7 and 8, with the collaboration of Food Bank volunteers and EROSKI store staff. Once the campaign ends, the cooperative will handle the collection, logistics, and centralized quantification of donations, which will later be transformed by FESBAL into essential food items and distributed among the families most in need.

“Once again, we appeal to the solidarity of our customers to support the most vulnerable groups. At EROSKI we want to support the invaluable work carried out by the Food Banks, adding an additional contribution on top of the total donations made. The Great Food Drive is an event that highlights the strength of cooperation and shared commitment to building a fairer and more supportive society,” explained Alejandro Martínez Berriochoa, Director of Health and Sustainability at EROSKI.

For his part, Pedro Llorca, President of FESBAL, stated that “from the Spanish Federation of Food Banks and the 54 associated Food Banks, we deeply appreciate the involvement of EROSKI and its customers in such a necessary initiative as the Great Food Drive. Our goal is to continue providing, at the right time, the most needed food to families who need it most. These types of alliances are essential to sustain our work and keep alive the chain of solidarity that connects society as a whole.”

In addition to donations to Food Banks, EROSKI carries out other initiatives aligned with its commitment to solidarity and sustainability, including the ‘Zero Waste’ and ‘Solidarity Cents’ programs, occasional international cooperation campaigns, collaborations such as with Too Good To Go, “ugly fruit” campaigns, and the valorization of organic by-products. In the first half of 2025, these actions have helped prevent 10,750 tons of food waste.

 

29 years of collaboration with Food Banks

EROSKI’s collaboration with Food Banks dates back to 1996, following an initiative from the Biscay Food Bank and consumers who requested solidarity actions aimed at disadvantaged groups and people at risk of social exclusion. That same year, food collection campaigns began in the cooperative’s stores.

Later, EROSKI launched its food donation program for packaged products close to their best-before date but still safe for consumption, through which it donates more than 5,000 tons of food every year.

EROSKI has been awarded the “Golden Spike Award,” the highest recognition granted by the Spanish Federation of Food Banks to organizations that stand out for their contribution to the solidarity redistribution of food surpluses.
