Eroski expects to sell €7.8 million worth of local products from the Balearic Islands during the Christmas season.

EROSKI expects to reach €7.8 million in sales of local products during the Christmas campaign, representing a 6.9% increase compared to the same period last year. With this forecast, the company reinforces its commitment to agri-food producers in the Balearic Islands during a key period of the retail calendar, promoting the consumption of local products through a wide offer that includes traditional festive items.

The cooperative announced these estimates this morning in Palma, as part of its traditional Christmas toast, held at the EROSKI Center Aragón supermarket. The event was attended by institutional representatives, local producers, employees, and customers, in an initiative designed to highlight Balearic products. During his speech, EROSKI’s Director in the Balearic Islands, Alfredo Herráez, thanked all attendees for their support and reiterated the company’s strong commitment to the local production network and the economic development of the islands.

The event was attended by the Director General of Agri-food Quality and Local Product of the Government, Joan Llabrés; the Director General of Business, Self-Employed Workers and Commerce of the Government, Pedrona Seguí; the Regional Minister for Economic Promotion and Local Development of the Mallorca Council, Pilar Amate; the Director of Economic Promotion and Product of Mallorca of the Mallorca Council, Álvaro Roca; the Councillor for Commerce, Hospitality and Self-Employed Workers of the Palma City Council, Guadalupe Ferrer; the Director General of Economy and Commerce of the Palma City Council, Toni Fuster; as well as local producers and representatives of various certified quality brands, such as Designations of Origin (DO) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).

Featured local products

Among the most prominent locally sourced products this Christmas in EROSKI supermarkets are the following:

  • Milk from Mallorca and Menorca, fresh and UHT: more than 210,000 liters were sold last Christmas, 11.4% more than in 2023.
  • Wines with DO certification and quality brands, sparkling wines and spirits, with sales close to one million euros last Christmas period, a 5.9% increase.
  • Fruit and vegetables harvested in the islands, with sales of €980,000 during last year’s holiday season, up 11%.
  • Bakery products: more than 176,000 units of traditional rustic bread were sold last Christmas.
  • Extra virgin olive oil (DO Oli de Mallorca), Mallorcan IGP sobrasada, Mahón-Menorca PDO cheese, and other iconic products such as ensaimadas, cocarrois, and artisanal nougat.
  • Butchery and fishery products with a wide range of island-origin goods: Balearic beef and lamb, and fresh daily fish from Menorca and Ibiza fish markets and fishermen’s guilds.
  • Traditional island pastries, with a wide variety of Balearic sweets such as ensaimadas, orelletes, flaons, Christmas biscuit, nougat, shortbread, wafers, anise and potato cakes (more than 199,800 units sold last Christmas), as well as ice creams and traditional festive products made on the islands.

In addition, throughout the entire Christmas campaign, EROSKI reinforces its commitment to household economies in the Balearic Islands through a policy of competitive prices and special promotions, making it easier to access a wide range of typical island products during an especially important consumption period.
