EROSKI is collaborating with 13 other companies and organizations in the Basque food supply chain and technology industry to promote the NOWaste Project.  This project’s goal is to research and apply new technologies aimed at reducing and valorizing the waste generated within the supply chain of fresh and perishable products.  The cooperative has obtained financial backing from the Basque Government via the HAZITEK 2022 program to participate in this initiative.

The agri-food sector, which is responsible for 8% of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions due to waste, faces a significant challenge to reduce its environmental impact.  Within the NOWaste framework, EROSKI will focus on two distinct lines to develop more sustainable food production processes in collaboration with the Tecnalia Research Center.

NOWaste, within the framework of the RIS3 Euskadi Smart Specialization Strategy and the Euskadi 2030 Science, Technology, and Innovation Plan for Smart Industry, will position the territory as a key technology supplier for the economic and environmental sustainability of the agri-food sector, strengthening its competitiveness and exporting capacity.
